It is about a month to the 100-day deadline the Buhari campaign set for itself to achieve a raft of pledges made ahead of the March elections. There are notable signs of progress, but the new administration must strive to achieve more for the millions of Nigerians who pinned their hopes on Buhari. The people themselves must remain vigilant.

Politicians like preachers' trade on hope and fear; hope, that unquantifiable substance, never loses value and is never in short supply. It is little wonder that churches are sprouting in new places every day or that politicians saddled with scandal or baggage almost always get a second chance. It maybe explains why Donald Trump is surging in the polls in the US.
