Rwanda: Traditional Medicine to Be Regulated Better

According to the ministry of health, a big number of Rwandans prefer traditional medicine over modern one. This is why the ministry confirms that some diseases can indeed be treated effectively by herbalists.

However, while a list of recognized traditional doctors exists, keeping it updated is proving a challenge, as is a proper assessment of the drugs they use to ensure they do not have adverse effects on patients.To improve this situation, the ministry wants to step up efforts to develop the indigenous knowledge to contribute to the public health, hand in hand with the modern medicine.
