Marrakech, Morocco — November 7, 2016 sees the opening of COP22, the 22nd edition of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in other words, the United Nations World Climate Conference.

The successor to COP21, which resulted in the historic Paris Agreement in December 2015, COP22 is intended to be the COP of action, the COP that translates international commitments into action through implementation of that Agreement.

It is also a COP held on the African continent, one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the disastrous consequences of climate change. As in every year, an Africa Pavilion will be erected on the site - in the blue area - to host debates, conferences and discussions. The Africa Pavilion is also a meeting place for leading figures, politicians and diplomats, in addition to experts on climate issues specific to Africa, representatives of civil society, and others.

The Africa Pavilion is the fruit of collaboration between the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Union Commission (AUC), NEPAD and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

COP22 will be held from November 7 to 18, 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco.
