South Africa: SA's Six Games Boxers Ready to Take to the Ring

Luanda — South Africa's boxers will once again be looking to land an early blow for Team SA at the AUSC Region 5 Games which start on Friday.

Veteran coach, Hannes Britz is again in charge, as he was for Team SA at the African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana two years ago.

'There are 10 divisions of fighters here in Angola but we will be represented in six of those,' he told the SASCOC website as the team settled in.

'We have boxers in the 49, 52, 56, 60, 64 and 69kg categories. Most of them (three) are from the Eastern Cape and then there are one each from Limpopo, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal.

'The weigh-in is scheduled for sometime on Friday and then we'll be able to see who our opponents are.

Five of the six boxers doing duty for Team SA are: Talent Baloyi, Ricardo Malajika, Mxolisi Zuma, Athenkosi Plaatjies and Uyanda Nogogo. The name of the sixth pugilist was awaiting ratification.

Opening ceremony is set for Friday afternoon and the boxing code was scheduled to get underway on Saturday and will take place over a period of five days.
