Mozambique: Not Enough Water for Maputo Irrigation

Maputo — Despite recent rain in Maputo, the level of water in the Pequenos Libombos dam on the Umbeluzi river is so low that the authorities are cutting water supplies from this reservoir to the irrigation schemes in Maputo province, according to a report on the independent television station STV.

Visiting the dam on Monday, the Minister of Public Works, Carlos Bonete, told reporters that, as from Thursday, no more water from the Pequenos Libombos will be used for irrigation, "because by then, even if it rains, we don't believe there will be enough water to improve the situation".
