Abdalla Hamdok Expresses Heartfelt Condolences Over Tragic Landslide in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa — Abdalla Hamdok, ECA's acting Executive Secretary has expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and the people of Ethiopia over the tragic loss of lives in the landslide that took place Sunday, on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

Speaking on behalf of the staff of the United Nations in Ethiopia, Mr Hamdok assured the Government of his support, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they come to terms and heal from this tragic loss."

Reports indicate that the landslide took place at a rubbish dump, killing more than 35 people. At the time of this writing, the cause of the landslide remains unclear.
