Two years after the adoption of two significant development frameworks, experts from the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for African (UNECA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are set to review and validate a report on Africa's implementation of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Agenda 2063/ SDGs Progress Report 2017 serves as a baseline report for assessingAfrica's progress in adapting, domesticating and implementing the two global development frameworks that came into effect in 2016. It reports on trends on some goals, documents the systems being put in place by African governments towards implementing, monitoring and reporting progress on the regional and global development frameworks.
In line with the theme and focus of this year's high-level political forum on Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world, the report highlights how the African region is faring along 6 of the 17 SDGs (SDG 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 and 14) and will serve as benchmark for tracking progress in future.
The report also documents the data gaps that African countries are yet to address, individually and collectively, expounds on trends on the 6 goals, and points to areas for greater integration and policy implications. The Agenda 2063/SDG Progress Report is expected to be launched in September 2017 on the margins of the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York.
