press release

At the foundation, we are guided by the belief that everyone deserves a chance to lead a healthy and productive life, and we're encouraged by the incredible progress toward achieving that goal. In their annual letter this year, Bill and Melinda shared a few of the stories that give them hope for the future - poverty has been cut in half, people are living longer and healthier lives than ever before.

While we know that progress is possible, it's not inevitable. The stakes are high and particularly during this time of dramatic transition in global politics, many people, particularly young people, want to make sure we don't go backwards.

That's why this September we're inviting people from around the world to join a frank conversation about tackling the world's toughest challenges. We'll be sharing stories of what's working and what isn't and revealing new and surprising data.

This is a first step toward building a community of thinkers, doers, and givers, the world's goalkeepers, dedicated to tackling these challenges and making real progress against the Global Goals.

We want you to be the first to join us. Let us know that you're interested, and we'll share more ways you can get involved from home over the coming months.

About the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people's health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people-especially those with the fewest resources-have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Sue Desmond-Hellmann and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.
