Cape Town — Popular singer and actor Dumi Masilela has been killed during a hijacking in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.

Dumi Masilela played the role of Sifiso Ngema on the popular e.tv soapie.

He took to acting after he was involved in a car accident that saw him quitting his professional soccer career.

Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa has expressed his condolences on Twitter. "It is with absolute shock and dismay that we received the news of Rhythm City star Dumi Masilela's sudden and tragic passing," said Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa.

His assailants drove away in his car.
