AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina to Attend 37th SADC Summit in South Africa

Pretoria, South Africa — The President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, will participate in the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) in Pretoria, South Africa, from August 19-20, 2017.

The Summit's theme this year is 'Partnering with the Private Sector in Developing Industry and Regional Value Chains.'

Before the Summit, the AfDB President will engage with South Africa's Minister of Finance, Malusi Gigaba, and top government officials in Johannesburg. The two sides will sign the Host Country Agreement for the Bank's Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office. The AfDB Chief will then travel to Pretoria for the SADC Summit, where he will deliver a statement at the opening ceremony on Saturday, August 19, 2017.

Adesina will attend other Summit events, pay a visit to the Bank's offices in Pretoria and engage with local and international media on key development issues and activities of the AfDB before he leaves South Africa on Sunday, August 20, 2017.
