Namibia: Iivula-Ithana, Ekandjo Announce Availability

Youth minister Jerry Ekandjo and home affairs minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana indicated today that they will be available for nomination for the party's top positions at this weekend's central committee meeting.

The two senior Swapo leaders announced this during today's politburo meeting which nominated President Hage Geingob for the party's president position.

The meeting also nominated candidates put forward by the President at last week's meeting.

Geingob's preferred candidates include international relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for vice president, urban and rural development minister Sophia Shaningwa for secretary general and former deputy prime minister Marco Hausiku for deputy SG.

The four will contest for these positions, against those to be nominated at Sunday's central committee meeting, at the party's congress next month.
