Nairobi — The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has postponed the fresh presidential election in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and Migori counties due to security-related challenges.

IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said the four counties will now hold their election on Saturday.

"The Commission has written to IG (Joseph Boinnet) and we are waiting for a response from him; we were promised security by the IG and the government agencies and once we get response from them we shall be able to see how we can manage the movement of materials and security of our officers in the respective counties," he said.

Voting in the areas failed to take off due to protests staged by supporters of the National Super Alliance.

Several polling stations either did not open or were empty with few clerks on call doing nothing but wait for people who never showed up.
