Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi have moved top of the NPFL standings after they recorded their second straight win of the new season at home yesterday against Go Round FC of Port Harcourt at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
The Makurdi club defeated the Port Harcourt side 1-0 to take their tally to seven points in the ongoing 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
With the result, the Benue soccer lords are the only side yet to lose a match this term after three weeks of hostilities, having previously drawn against Enyimba in the opening day match at home, and won against Rangers in Enugu.
Samad Kabiri scored the lone goal of the match in the 31st minute of the game, for his team to earn the three points.
Katsina United also battered former champions Enyimba FC of Aba 2-0 to take their tally to four points, having drawn one match and lost one before yesterday's win. Martins Ursule and Usman Barau were the scorers in the 29th and 65th minutes respectively.
Reigning champions Plateau United lost their first game of the season after losing 0-1 to host Abia Warriors. Obi Samson scored the match winner three minutes into the match played at Umuahia Stadium.
Second placed Akwa United overpowered visiting Yobe Desert Stars 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with goals from Victor Mbaoma (30) and Michael Okoro Ibe (32); while FC IfeanyiUbah are third on the log after a 2-0 win over Kwara United in Nnewi. Godwin Obaje and Ekene Awazie were on target for the Ladan Bosso led side in the 23rd and 64th minutes respectively.
In Maiduguri, Bello Musa Kofarmata, Edoh Ocheme and Anthony Sunday were on target in the 59th, 63rd and 89th minutes respectively as El-Kanemi Warriors recorded the biggest win of the season so far after a massive 3-1 win over visiting Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC. MFM'S lone goal was scored by Adeboyega Adekunle in the 76th minute of play.
At the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port-Harcourt, Bamba Bakari and Guy Kuemian scored in the 19th and 58th minutes respectively to seal a 2-1 win over visiting Kano Pillars, while Junior Lokosa reduced the tally in the 33rd minute. Wikki Tourists also dismissed Niger Tornadoes 1-0 with Saidu Abdullahi's 61 minute strike.
In Lafia, Nasarawa United recorded their first win of the season after goals from Douglas Achiv (8) and Anyu Ishaya (65) saw the Lafia side dispatched Sunshine Stars 2-0, while the only away win of the week was recorded in Owerri where visiting Rangers International defeated Heartland FC 1-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. The goal was scored by Bright Silas in the 10th minute of play.
