SPONSORS of the Kilimanjaro Marathon have called on participants of this year's event to ensure they register early so as not to miss the rare opportunity as a bigger number of entries is expected this year.
The call comes two weeks before the grand race which draws over 10,000 participants from 45 countries worldwide in Moshi municipality, the main venue of all big races that make the Kili Marathon.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Brand Manager, Pamela Kikuli, whose brand is the main sponsor of this prestigious event, called on participants, especially those taking part in 42 km race that is sponsored by the beer to ensure they register on time so that most of the 20m/- cash prizes can remain in Tanzania.
"We expect this year's marathon to be bigger and more exciting, hence the reason for insisting on early registration is to avoid last minute inconveniences," she said as she praised the organisers for early preparations and good coordination, adding that Dar residents will for the second time get the chance to register on February 24 and 25 at the Mlimani City grounds. She said as main sponsors they will also award the first Tanzanian men winner of the 42 km race 1m/- and same amount will go to the winner of the lady category. "
This is just one of the ways of increasing participation as this race has previously been dominated by Kenyans. On his part, the Tigo acting Northern Zone Director, Henry Kinabo appealed to all 21km participants to start early preparations including registration ready for the marathon that will happen on March 4, this year at the Moshi Cooperatives University (MoCU).
