Kenya: Floods Washes Away Part of Maai Mahiu Road, Motorists Stranded

The road at Suswa caved in due to heavy rains.

Tens of travellers were caught up in a heavy traffic snarl-up on Maai Mahiu-Narok road after a section of the road was washed away by floods on Tuesday night.

The incident which occurred near Karima Secondary School made the road impassable forcing motorists to turn back and use another route.

Those from South Rift, Kisii and Nyanza were diverted to Kericho-Nakuru highway.

A report at Maai-Mahiu Police Station shows that a section of the road as wide as four metres and 20 feet in depth was cut off.

No casualties were reported.

The meteorological department on Friday sent an alert of impeding heavy downpour with possible devastating effects in many parts of the country beginning this week.

Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Northern, Southeastern, Coast, Central and Nairobi are already experiencing heavy rains.
