The African Development Bank Participates in the 8th World Water Forum - Sharing and Learning

Brasilia, Brazil — The World Water Forum, which is the culmination of 3 years of global water actors' consultations, opened in Brasilia on Monday, March 19 to over 30,000 participants.

Facilitated by the World Water Council, a global body with over 600 member organizations, it will focus on sharing experiences and advancements in the sustainable development and management of this precious resource for social and economic development. Much emphasis is put on the fact that water security has wide-ranging impacts on energy, agriculture, industrialization and health.

The 8th World Water Forum coincides with the celebration of the World Water Day on March 22 under the theme: "Nature for Water: exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century".

As a leading financial and technical partner for water development in Africa and a governing member of the World Water Council, the African Development Bank led the regional process at the global level and facilitated the Africa region consultations. The Water Development and Sanitation Department is showcasing success stories and those of its flagship initiatives, the African Water Facility (AWF) and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative (RWSSI).
