Zambia: Dr M'membe Joins Politics

Cuban Ambassador Nelson Pages Vila and Socialist Party leader Fred M'membe.

Seasoned media guru Dr. Fred M'membe will on Saturday unveiled as a member of the Socialist Party Zambia.

Dr. M'membe is known to have been the architect of the socialist party founder which is a breakaway of the Wynter Kabimba's Rainbow Party.

M'membe is alleged to have departed company with Kabimba immediately after the 2016 elections which saw the formation of the Socialist Party Zambia headed by Dr Cosmas Musumali in an interim position.

Dr Musumali disclosed at a media briefing that now was the time for Dr. Fred M'membe to openly join the socialist party that is expected to be launched this Saturday.

He said Dr. M'membe will no longer continue to play an advisory role to every political party, but that it was time for him to join fully.

"Comrade Fred M'membe is a member of the Socialist Party. This is a comrade who for years has always worked in the background. There is no political party in Zambia where he has not participated. He was there at the founding of the MMD with Mbita Chitala, Akashambatwa and others. The National Party, he was part of it. Let's not forget that he also supported the PF; he worked closely with Mr Sata, but he was aware of his role as a journalist.

Dr Musumali said, "if you attend our launch on Saturday you will see him. And we have no apologies about it. Comrade M'membe has mentored a lot of politicians who are now members of parliament, both from the opposition and in the current government."

Dr. M'membe founded The Post and later established The Mast after the flagship publication was shut owing to huge debts.
