Somalia: Hirshabelle State President Fires Hiran Governor

The president of HirShabelle state president Mohamed Abdi Ware has sacked the governor of Hiran region in central Somalia on Friday.

The governor - Ali Jeyte Osman has been removed from office over incompetence and for failing the security and humanitarian assistance to the drought-affected people in Hiran.

In a statement, President Ware has appointed Abdullahi Ahmed Moalim as the new governor of Hiran, replacing Osman who has been in power since last year.

Early, Osman has resisted dismissal by the interior ministry of the regional administration, sparking a standoff led the president to intervene in and fire the governor.
