Nigeria: EFCC Raids Former NSITF Boss, Ngozi Olejeme's House

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, reportedly raided the home of Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, former Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF and 2015 deputy chairman, finance committee of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign Organisation.

A family source, who confirmed the story, said "It was reliably gathered that she is presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital after horrifying experience from men of the EFCC who invaded her house at about 6am on Saturday morning.

He alleged that the EFCC operatives acted under the inducement of one Chief Arthur Eze on a civil dispute that is already before an Abuja high court, even though she is on administrative bail from the commission.

"The operation lasted for about 12 hours where road leading to her residence was blocked and the officials refused to tender any invitation letter or warrant of arrest."

However, EFCC spokesperson could not confirm the story as calls to his lines were not connected as at press time.

Olejeme has been having running battle with the EFCC over the alleged embezzlement and diversion of the fund.

Olejeme, who was declared wanted in 2017, was said to have turned herself in and made useful statement to the EFCC's investigators.

Probe report obtained indicated that some of the cash embezzled had been used for electioneering in the 2015 general election.

"We have been investigating fraud of over N62.3 billion in NSITF during Olejeme's tenure between 2009 and 2015. Out of the sum, preliminary findings indicated that the ex-NSITF boss allegedly diverted $48, 485, 127. She allegedly used her account officer in First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) to collect the $48.4 million from some NSITF contractors through a BDC operator.

"Olejeme had made useful statement to our team of investigators. We are probing clues that some of the looted cash had been diverted to the prosecution of the 2015 general election because Olejeme was the Deputy Chairman, Finance Committee, of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation," an EFCC source said.
