East Africa: Ministry of Defense Outlines AMISOM's Exit Strategy

The ministry of defense for Somalia's Federal government has announced the exit strategy of the peacekeepers serving under African Union mission in the country.

During Thursday's weekly meeting of the cabinet, the defense minister has declared that the Somali troops are prepared to take over the security responsibility from the AU forces.

The minister said the last AU soldier will leave Somalia in 2021.

AMISOM - African Union Mission in Somalia is made up of 22,000 soldiers from Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti, Uganda, and Ethiopia.
