Ethiopia: Kilinto Industrial Park to Go Operational

Kilinto Pharmaceutical Industrial Park will go operational in June 2018, according to the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC).

The park is under construction with 5.5 billion Br on a 279ha of a plot. The plot is located on the outskirts of the capital, Addis Abeba, and 863km away from the port of Djibouti.

The park is 70pc complete now, according to the Corporation. About 10 global pharmaceutical companies have shown interest to enter the park.

Ethiopia imports more than 85pc of its medicine from abroad. The Kilinto Industrial Park is expected to help the country save and bring in foreign currency upon being operational.

As part of its efforts to boost manufacturing and export, the government plans to push the number of its industrial parks to 15 by June 2018.
