Ethiopia Is Participating On an International Forum for Agriculture

Ethiopia is participating on the 13th annual International Forum for Agriculture (SIAM) to display the nation's potentials in the sector.

Morocco's city Meknes, is hosting the week-long SIAM forum under the theme of "Logistics and Agricultural Markets."

More than 1,400 organizations and companies drawn from 66 countries are displaying their products while more than 800,000 visitors are estimated to visit the pavilions from April 23 to 29, 2018.

Ethiopia's ambassador to Morocco, Yeshi Tamirat told ENA that Ethiopia will exhibit samples of Ethiopian coffee, oilseeds and other agricultural products for which Ethiopia is globally known.

Ambassador Yeshi added that Ethiopia is participating on this international expo for the first time and the occasion will create an excellent opportunity for Ethiopia to promote its export level agricultural products to the global market and would also help to lure foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector to Ethiopia.

This would also create an excellent opportunity to solicit markets for Ethiopian agricultural products, the ambassador said.

She said that Ethiopia's participation on the international expo, in which companies from Africa and the rest of the world participate, will provide an opportunity for Ethiopia to gain more experience for promoting the sector at the international level.

The fact that Ethiopia has included the services it can provide in maritime and logistics services will help to solve transport hurdles that Morocco and other countries are facing in importing Ethiopia's agricultural products.

"Netherlands, the guest of honor country on the forum, had provided technological assistance to the international agricultural exhibition and we are effectively lobbying with the organizers to enable Ethiopia organize the next expo in Ethiopia," Ambassador Yesi noted.

This would create an opportunity for Ethiopia to effectively compete and stand out in luring globally renowned companies to import Ethiopian agricultural products.

The forum is intended to serve as a platform for economic exchange for participants to share their experiences with visitors and showcase their products and achievements in the agriculture sector, the forum organizing committee said.
