Dar es Salaam — Actress Elizabeth Michael, alias Lulu, has been released from prison after the High Court commuted her two-year jail sentence to community service.
Prisons Department information officer Lucas Mboje confirmed to MCL Digital on Monday, May 14, 2018 that Lulu was released on May 9 after serving seven months of her sentence.
"It's true that Lulu's sentence has been commuted to community service. She was released from prison on Saturday, May 9 at around 8am. However, I wish to make it clear that she remains a prisoner, but will serve the remainder of her sentence doing community service," said Mr Mboje.
Lulu was last year convicted of culpability for the 2012 death of actor Steven Kanumba and sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
She earlier confessed to having quarreled with Kanumba, but denied causing his death.
