South Africa: Man Sentenced to 25 Years Imprisonment After Raping 9-Year-Old Girl

press release

Thembekile Mhlongo, 45 years old, of NU 1 Mdantsane was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment at the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court yesterday. This sentence follows after the court found him guilty of raping a 9-year-old girl in January 2016.

The victim fragilely reports that on a Sunday she had gone over to her neighbour's house, whom she normally visits and will sleep with, due to her boyfriend working nightshifts. Unfortunately, when the victim arrived the accused girlfriend was not around and was greeted by her boyfriend, Thembekile Mhlongo, at the door, falsely telling her that his girlfriend was on her way.

As she waited for her arrival in one of the spare rooms, Thembekile entered and raped the little 9-year-old. After the heinous act he sent her home in the early hours of the morning, bribing her with an insignificant R3.00. He further threatened to beat her if she uttered a word of what he had done.

This cruel and inhumane act is one amongst many that prompts our members to go above and beyond in putting a stop to all atrocious crimes.

Mdantsane cluster commander, Major General Henry Vos commended the investigating officer for a sterling job, "We salute Warrant Officer Zonwabele Singeni of Mdantsane Family, Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for his achievement, his efforts have with conviction brought some form of closure to yet another family," he added.
