South Africa: Harmony Gold Miner Killed in Underground Accident

Harmony Gold has confirmed that a miner died at its Moab Khotsong mine near Orkney, in the North West, on Thursday morning.

"It was a shaft ore pass event that took place earlier this morning. The rescue team was immediately dispatched," mine spokesperson Sihle Maake said.

Maake said the miner's family had been informed and that counselling would be provided for rest of the workers.

Operations at the mine have been suspended.
