The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has sympathised with members of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, who were involved in a road accident on Saturday.

In a press statement released by the ministry on Sunday, the minister wished the injured JOHESU members quick recovery.

Mr Adewole said that he had been in touch with the Chief Medical Directors of University of Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH) and Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital on the need to offer comprehensive medical attention to the injured.

According to the statement signed by the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, Olajide Oshundun, 19 JOHESU members were involved in an accident along the Benin-Auchi road on Saturday.

He said the accident victims are staff of UBTH chapter of the union.

According to the statement, 40 of the health workers were on their way to a function in Auchi, when the accident occurred.

"The injured victims were subsequently rushed to the Otibho Okhai Hospital in Irrua, Edo state," it said.

JOHESU members have been on strike since April 17.

Attempts to reach an amicable agreement between the government and the striking health workers have not been successful.

JOHESU has also ignored a court ruling from the National Industrial Court which last week ordered the workers to resume work within 24 hours.
