Tanzania: Bunge Shuts Down for a Day to Mourn Fallen Legislator

Dodoma — The Tanzanian parliament has shut down its business on Monday (May 28) to allow legislators to mourn Kasuku Bilago - a Chadema lawmaker who passed away on Saturday.

Mr Bilago died at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam where he had been hospitalised.

Grieving lawmakers looked somber in black as Debuty Speaker Tulia Ackson announced the suspension of House sessions Monday morning.

"I'm suspending House activities till Tuesday morning, when we will reconvene for a half day - then meet till 12pm when we will postpone the session to allow lawmakers to pay their last respects to their fallen colleague," announced Dr Ackson.

Mr Bilago will be laid to rest in Kigoma on Wednesday in a service to be led by National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai.
