Somalia: Gunmen Kill Somali Soldier in Afgoye Outside Mogadishu

Suspected Al-Shabaab assailants armed with pistols were reported to have shot and killed a member of Somali national army [SNA] in Afgoye district, about 30Km northwest of Mogadishu, witnesses said.

The shooting took place on Friday evening in a busy market for the stimulant leaf Khat in the town, where the soldier whose name has not been released by the unknown gunmen.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to Radio Shabelle that the soldier was shot on the head and immediately died on the spot. The killers managed to escape the crime scene before the arrival of the Police officers.

No group has yet claimed credit for the murder which was the latest in series of targeted assignations against Somali security force members, civil servants and elders who took part last parliamentary polls.

The attacks are mainly happening in Mogadishu, the seaside capital of the Horn of Africa nation.
