Nigeria: ALP Holds Seminar On Agric Financing

Abuja — The 2018 edition of Akindelano Legal Practitioners (ALP) Seminar holds in Lagos on June 21, with focus on agricultural financing, commercialisation and research.

The Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu will attend the event's networking lunch and deliver the keynote address on issues such as industrialisation and financing the agro sector.

He will use as a case study the CBN Anchor Borrowers' Programme, which has impacted on national rice production, particularly in Kebbi State, where output has already helped cut down on importation of processed rice by more than 80 per cent.

The collaboration to convene the seminar is between Akindelano Legal Practitioners and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).

The seminar, according to a release will roll out speakers and expert panelists to discuss the challenges and strategies for a successful transition to modern agriculture.

Other speakers include the Managing Director of Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Aliyu Abdulhameed; Deputy Director General of IITA, Dr. Kenton Dashiell; Vice President Olam Nigeria, Ade Adefeko, while the special guests include the Executive Secretary Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) Segun Awolowo and commissioners of agriculture from the six South-west states and Kebbi State.

The seminar will draw from last year's discussion with emphasis on self- sufficiency, commercialisation of research facilities, the use of new technology, value chain challenges, crowd funding, investment opportunities and tapping into the business acumen of young entrepreneurs.

The predominant view from the 2017 seminar was that the private sector must partner government and rise to the challenge of aligning Nigeria with the modern age agricultural practices.

The ALP Seminar Series was conceived and created in 2012 by Akindelano Legal Practitioners as an interactive business forum to evoke discourse on practical, commercial and legal issues facing executives and decision-makers engaged in business in Nigeria.

It aims to stimulate innovative strategies and outline pragmatic solutions for the Nigeria economy. Now in its seventh year, the seminar is expected to strengthen existing synergies and help create new ones.

The series is propelled by an advisory committee of professionals with diverse business expertise, including Omamofe Boyo, Oando Plc; Ajibola Olomola, KPMG; Kayode Akinkugbe, FBN Quest; Oluyele Delano (SAN) and John Delano, both of ALP.
