Stakeholders to Gather for Advocacy and Communication Training On Land Governance Issues

6 June 2018

Addis Abab — Stakeholders working on land governance issues will assemble in Addis Ababa for a 2-day communication and advocacy training workshop organized by the African Land Policy Centre under the auspices of a joint ALCP/IFAD project on "Mainstreaming Land Policy and Governance in CAADP National Agricultural and Food Security Investment Plan".

The project was conceptualized jointly by the ALPC and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) as a two year pilot project to promote mainstreaming of land governance in the implementation of CAADP in six countries: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cote d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Malawi, Tanzania and Rwanda. In all the six pilot countries, agricultural strategies and/or National Agriculture investment plans (NAIPs) have undergone review, with land governance issues successfully mainstreamed in agricultural strategies and investment plans. According to the Joan Kagwanja, Coordinator of the ALPC, the success of this mainstreaming has largely been due to good achievements in all the four broad outcome areas of the project namely: enhancing knowledge; raising awareness; developing capacity; and advancing monitoring and evaluation.

This workshop is aimed at responding to the needs identified by stakeholders during the implementation of the joint project and the demand coming from one of the implementing countries, Madagascar. The objectives of the workshop are:

Introduce participants to ALPC tools and methodology for assisting member states in adequate and effective implementation of the AU Declaration on land issues and challenges in Africa ;

Enable the participants to share on their country report and business plan and obtain feedback on alignment with the implementation process of mainstreaming land governance within the CAADP process;

Share on existing initiatives that could support country implementation of the communication and advocacy work

Develop a country action plan on advocacy and communication which will be include in the business plan.

The communication and advocacy training workshop will be held on the 28th and 29th of June 2018 at the UNCC, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and will bring together approximately around 25 governments representatives and resource persons from the land sector at national and regional levels.
