Nigeria: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Invited to Become a Member of the Oscars

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, one of the leading Nollywood stars has been invited to be a Member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences "THE OSCARS." Omotola has also been nominated for her film Alterego, for the best actress category.

Nigerian actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde popularly known as Omo Sexy announced on her Instagram page that she had been invited to be a Member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She wrote, "It's With Great joy and Sense of Responsibility that I Announce that I have been Invited to be a Member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences "THE OSCARS ". I am Truly Elated."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a global organization, representing the best of an international art form, and has members in countries all over the world. The Academy membership is limited to film artists working in the production of theatrically-released motion pictures. Omotola who celebrated her 40th birthday recently is one of the leading Nollywood actresses in Nigeria, with a career spanning over two decades.

To join the Academy as a member, one must either be an Academy Award nominee or must be sponsored, it is never by application. According to the Academy, candidates must be sponsored by two Academy members from the branch to which the candidate seeks admission. Membership review into the Academy takes place once a year, and each candidate who receives a favourable endorsement from the appropriate Branch Executive Committee will be submitted to the Board of Governors for final approval.

Omotola was recently nominated for the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in the Best Actress in Drama category for her film Alter Ego. The film has been nominated nine times in different categories. Asides acting, Omotola is a staunch activist. Through her Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme, she has fought for human rights.

With various awards under her belt, including TIME 100 Most influential in the World, and having acted in over 200 films, Omotola's invite to be a Member of the Academy is very well deserved.
