Nigeria: IAAF Continental Cup - 16 Nigerian Athletes Set to Represent Africa

The Confederation of African Athletics, CAA, has included 16 Nigerians in a shortlist of 77 athletes to represent the continent at next month's IAAF Continental Cup.

The event which would take place in Ostrava, Czech Republic will also have other athletes from other continents also on parade.

The African athletes were majorly selected on the strength of their performance at the recently held 21st African Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, Delta State.

With Nigeria getting 16 of her athletes listed, that is the second highest behind South Africa that got 20 athletes listed.

Caster Semenya and Akani Simbine are among 20 South Africans selected.

The IAAF Continental Cup would take place from September 8 to 9 in Ostrava.

The Nigerian athletes ready to represent Africa are:

1 ESE BRUME (Long jump)

2 TOBI AMUSAN (100mH, 4x100m)


4 GRACE ANIGBATA (Triple jump)


6 KELECHI NWANAGA (Javelin throw)

7 Blessing Okagbare (4x100m)

8 Joy-Udo Gabriel (4x100m)

9 Rosemary Chukwuma (4x100m)

10 Chioma Onyekwere (Discus throw)

11 Divine Oduduru (200m)

12 Abejoye Oyeniyi (110mH)

13 Chuks Enekwechi (Shot put)

14 Yinka Ajayi (4x400m reserve)

15 Mercy Ntia-Obong (4x100m reserve)

16 Chidi Okezie (4x400metres reserve)
