Botswana: Gaborone United Welcome Extension Gunners Tonight

Gaborone — All eyes would be on midfield ace Dirang Moloi when Gaborone United (GU) clash with Extension Gunners at Molepolole Sports Complex tonight(August 31) at 7pm.

'Mthakathi' as Moloi is affectionately called by the hordes of football lovers who are often charmed by his sublime skills, caused excitement in Lobatse earlier this month by agreeing to join Gunners before closure of the transfer window.

The slightly built player even trained with the Peleng based team, but somersaulted within few hours and extended his stay at GU on the last day of the transfer business.

Last weekend, Moloi pulled strings in the middle of the park as GU held Police XI to a 1-1 draw in Lobatse.

He is once again expected to orchestrate things tonight when the Reds try to overcome the team he nearly joined few weeks ago.

Having sunk to the bottom of the log standings with minus two points after being docked three points for failure to comply with a FIFA instruction to pay their former player Bismarck Appiah, GU would be searching for victory to kick start their campaign.

Apart from a draw with Police XI, the Reds were beaten 3-1 by Sharps Shooting Stars in the other match they have played so far.

Gunners on the other hand will be looking to consolidate their positive start to the campaign.

After sparkling for large spells in their 3-3 opening day stalemate with Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Mapantsula followed up that performance with a 2-1 victory over newly promoted BR Highlanders last weekend.

Veteran striker Kenanao Kgetholetsile has shown that he has lost none of his enviable poaching instincts and his combination with the likes of Kabelano Mooketsane, Ogomoditse Sitang, Botshelo Mafoko and Baokeditswe Talane could cause problems for GU.

However the Reds have equally good players in the form of Obonwe Maome, Ogomoditswe Bauleni and Alphonse Modisaotsile to swing the tide in their favour.

But the absence of speedy winger Mandla Mgadla due to a red card received against Police XI could affect their fluidity on the right wing.

League encounters between the two sides over the past three seasons are all square, with each team having claimed two victories and scoring four goals, while the other two encounters ended in draws.

The other match on Friday night will see Security Systems hosting BDF XI at Lobatse Sports Complex at 7pm.

On Saturday, log leaders Jwaneng Galaxy would attempt to continue their perfect record when they clash with defending champions Township Rollers at the Galaxy Stadium.

Galaxy sent an ominous warning to other title rivals by pumping 10 goals in their first two matches against Prisons XI and Security Systems.

Therefore, the likes of Simisani Mathumo, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Tshepo Motlhabankwe and Ivan Ntege would require to be at their best to contain the likes of Patrick Kaunda, Tebogo Sembowa and Thero Setsile.

Other September 1 matches will see Police XI welcoming Black Forest at Otse Stadium, Sharps Shooting Stars hosting Orapa United at UB Stadium and Sankoyo Bush Bucks clashing with Prisons XI at Maun Sports Complex.

On September 2, Notwane host Miscellaneous at Molepolole Sports Complex while BR Highlanders welcome Mochudi Centre Chiefs at Serowe Sports Complex.

The matches kick off at 4pm except the Sharps/Orapa and Notwane/Miscellaneous which start at 3:30pm.
