Angola: Football - Sports Ministry Regrets Stadium Stampede

Luanda — Angola's Ministry of Youth and Sports has regretted the death of five football fans happened Saturday at Luanda's "11 de Novembro" Stadium.

The incident happened in Luanda as the host Primeiro de Agosto drew 0-0 with DR Congo's TP Mazembe in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final.

In its note, the Sports Ministry mentioned three members of the same family, of whom two children aged between 10 and 12, as being among the victims.

"The deadly stampede happened when the crowd tried to get out of the 11 de Novembro stadium, reads the message.

The Ministry regrets and expresses the feeling of sorrows to the families.

It added that a commission of inquiry will be set up to investigate the causes of the incident.
