Ugandan Medic Develops New TB Vaccine for Adults

Kampala — A Ugandan medical doctor, Dr Jacqueline Akite, together with a team of other international scientists have registered landmark success by developing a new vaccine that stops the spread of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in adults.

According to the findings published in The New England Journal of Medicine on Tuesday, "M72/AS01E [vaccine] provided 54.0 per cent protection for M. tuberculosis-infected adults against active pulmonary tuberculosis disease, without evident safety concerns".
