Tanzania: Magufuli Appoints Dr Kihaule As New NIDA Director General

A statement released on Wednesday, October 03, signed by the director of presidential communications Gerson Msigwa says his appointment takes effect from today.

Before his appointment, Dr Kihaule served as a lecturer at the Ardhi University (Aru), according to a statement.

Dr Kihaule is replacing former Nida DG Dickson Mwaimu who was suspended in January 25, 2016 by President John Magufuli over questionable expenditure of Sh179.6 billion.

The Head of State directed the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) and Controller and Auditor General (CAG) to investigate how the money was spent.

Mr Maimu and several other Nida senior officials are currently facing charges of the misuse of power, conspiracy, forgery of documents with intent to cheat the employer and occasion to the government a loss of Sh1, 169,352,931.
