A security guard was shot in Midrand on Wednesday morning.
According to a statement by Netcare 911, its units responded to reports of a shooting in Aitken Street in Halfway House, Midrand, at 11:40.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said that "reports from the scene indicate that a male, approximately 30-years-old, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to both his arms and chest".
Herbst said the security guard had gone to investigate a group of suspicious men when an altercation broke out and he was shot.
"The patient was treated on the scene by a Netcare 911 emergency care practitioner and, once stabilised, was transported in a critical condition to hospital for further assessment and care."
Circumstances leading up to the shooting were unknown, said Herbst.
"All necessary authorities were on scene to investigate."
