Tanzania: Zanzibar's Third Edition of Food Festival On Oct 14-20

THE third Edition of Stone Town Food Festival, one of the growing popular culinary events in Zanzibar, takes place on October 14-20, this year.

Visitors, tourists and residents will have an opportunity to taste dishes from Top 10 restaurants in the Unesco's World Heritage town. Speakers from the organising committee led by Park Hyatt General Manager, Garry Friend, told reporters at a press conference held at Park Hyatt Hotel's Beach House in Zanzibar that alongside various delicious dishes, there would be a rich selection of beverages and delicacies as well as cultural music from the Dhow Countries Academy and Stone Town Rockers.

"The aim of our festival is to advert, besides high level gastronomy, Zanzibar's Stone Town as an interesting place to visit and stay.

We expect the event will attract more tourists than in the past," festival cofounder Garry Friend said.

Flanked by other committee members, he said visitors would have an opportunity to taste local and exotic dishes from hotels/restaurants in Stone Town prepared by skilled chefs, confectioners and domestic and exotic drinks would be at festival rates.

According to Ms Katia Wellving from the Emerson Spice Hotels, this year's festival would be part of the planned four-day Zanzibar tourism show scheduled to start on October 17 at Hotel Verde in Mtoni, where people would see different attractive exhibitions on tourism.

Foodie and Event Organiser Donna da Silva said visitors would discover different dishes for all senses and taste herbs to be served at the famous Forodhani Park, Stone Town in the evening of next Sunday beginning at 6.00pm. MashaAllah Café Director, Yaseer Yussuf and Mr Farid Himid, who is proficient in Zanzibari local foods, said the food festival would also include food from all over, including Italian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Middle East fast foods.
