More than 1000 submissions went through the selection process with a jury of nine stakeholders from the film industry, academics and industry professionals.
A total of 140 nominees were unveiled, and will be competing in 32 categories. The submissions included 178 entries in the Film Category, 107 in the TV Category and 45 in the Special Awards Category, all produced within the last year.
Some of the categories include Best Original Screenplay, Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best TV Advertisement, Best Animation Production, among others.
Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase said that the awards seek to advance the art and business of film-making, especially through capacity building.
"We organise workshops and masterclasses across the country where upcoming film-makers are trained on various aspects of film making. The workshops have been a success through transfer of skills from key industry stakeholders to community-based film-makers."
The Nomination Academy chaired by Dr Zippora Okoth, mentioned that the quality of the submissions this year is much higher than before, a clear indication that Kenyan film makers have incorporated advanced technological skills for quality film production.
Kalasha Film and TV Awards is an initiative of the Kenya Film Commission that seeks to recognise talent in the different facets of Film and TV industry.
