Namibia: Telecom Pays N$2,5m Bonuses to Executives

Seven Telecom Namibia executives, including chief executive officer Theo Klein, received bonuses totalling almost N$2,5 million in June this year.

Klein confirmed the payments to The Namibian on Wednesday, but said there was nothing wrong with the bonus payouts as they were part of their contracts.

The executives who were rewarded were: Theo Klein (N$618 000); suspended head of legal services Jinah Buys (N$212 000); chief mobile officer Armando Perny (N$399 940); chief operations officer Laban Hiwilepo (N$401 100); chief commercial officer Calvin Muniswaswa (N$531 250); chief human resources officer Holger Sircoulomb (N$103 600); and Powercom CEO Alisa Amupolo (N$232 284).

Telecom Namibian has been struggling financially over recent years. Part of its problems appears to be financial mismanagement, for it was reported last month that the parastatal made 16 monthly payments towards a N$12 million contract that turned out to be fake.
