Angola: Deputy Governor Highlights Regulatory Role of "Operation Rescue"

Luanda — The Deputy Governor of Luanda, Julio Bessa, highlighted Sunday the regulatory and pedagogical role of ?Operation Rescue?, which is supposed to start soon in the province.

The official was speaking at a meeting with journalists and representatives of other entities mobilized for the operation, conducted by the national police, within the scope of the communication strategy of the program. Officially announced on 24 October, "Operation Rescue" will be deployed throughout the country for an indefinite period until the situation is properly under the control of the authorities. With the aim of creating conditions for the normalization of life in the Angolan cities and municipalities, "Operation Rescue" aims to restore State authority in the management and control of the most diverse activities, as well as the fight against crime and illegal immigration. More than repressive, the Operation is imminently pedagogical, stressed the head of the Office of Institutional Communication and Press of the national police, intendant Mateus Rodrigues. One of the aspects addressed in the operation concerns the sale in inappropriate spaces, such as street walks and air tickets, a situation that authorities intend to overcome with regulation and control. Among the various measures to be implemented are the project of opening up, in all municipalities and communes, local markets, where the sellers will be previously registered. In this regard, the director of the provincial cabinet of commerce, industry and mineral resources, Jose Moreno, alluded to the fact that the various markets already built are not occupied, when there are 31,000 spaces available. José Moreno also said that street vending is allowed by law, provided that the interested parties are licensed. As for the products prohibited from being marketed on the street, José Moreno mentioned meats, medicines, insecticides, seeds, plants, and herbs, as well as furniture and sound systems. The "Operation Rescue" is followed by another one, the"Operation Transparency", which had as its stage the East of Angola and that aimed to stop the illegal practice of mining of Angolan minerals, especially the diamonds, as well as the clearing of the fauna and flora.
