Mozambique: Abortive Theft Causes Major Power Cut

Maputo — Much of the southern Mozambican city of Matola was plunged into darkness on Friday night by an abortive attempt to steal cables from an electricity sub-station.

According to a release from the public electricity company EDM, the thief was a security guard who was supposed to protect the Maputo gas-fired combined cycle power station, of which the sub-station forms part.
