Two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), in view to support the development and progress of cooperative societies, were signed yesterday at the LIC building in Port-Louis in the presence of the Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mr Soomilduth Bholah.
The MoUs were signed between the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives (Cooperatives Division), the Mauritius Co-operative Agricultural Federation Ltd and the Mauritius Agricultural Marketing Co-operative Federation Ltd.
In a statement to the press, Minister Bholah underlined that the MoUs will provide further assistance and necessary infrastructure for cooperatives to better engage in their daily operational activities. The MoUs will also contribute to encourage techniques of Organic and Bio-Farming as well as increase the productivity and turnover of cooperative societies, he added.
The MoUs also make provisions for the allocation of land of around 60 'perches' and 35 'perches' at the Maison Des Eleveurs in Henrietta for the setting up of a seedling production unit and at the Maison Des Eleveurs in St Pierre for the implementation of Organic and Bio Farming project respectively.
On this occasion, a Licence agreement was also signed with the Mauritius Livestock Marketing Co-operative Federation Ltd for the allocation of a building (456 sq. ft) at Maison Des Eleveurs in Henrietta to set up a retail outlet for the sale of agricultural products and pasteurised milk.
