Angola: Local Governments to Expand Space of Power Sharing

Huambo — The implementation of local governments in Angola, as from the year 2020, will enable to expand the space of power sharing and stimulate national development, said on Wednesday in the central Huambo Province the local manager of the NGO Rural and Environment Development Action (ADRA), Cidália Gomes.

Cidália Gomes, who was addressing the opening of the 21st communities' meeting run by ADRA, said the local governments will bring more transparency in the public funds management and better supervision of the governmental activities.

However, taking into account the importance of the local governments, the official defended the need for greater spread of information to the people so as to ensure their effective participation in the local elections process, whose implementation model has not yet been defined.

The meeting of the communities is being attended by 100 people in representation of political parties, university students associations and municipal administrations, with the goal to assess the degree of accomplishment of the recommendations of the meeting held in 2017 and share good practices of local sustainable development.
