Ethiopia: MoFA to Assign Senior Diplomats for Neighboring Countries

Addis Ababa — Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prioritized assigning skillful and senior diplomats in neighboring countries to further elevate the ongoing relations, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Melese Alem, Spokesperson of the Ministry said in the past senior and outstanding diplomats were assigned in Europe, U.S.A and other countries, he revealed that this trend has now changed.

Giving due consideration to the neighboring countries is an uppermost priority since the situation that is going on in neighboring counties would have a direct spillover effects on Ethiopia, he pointed out.

In related news, the spokesperson said out of 412 diplomats, half of them were reshuffled.

Furthermore, he stated that the Ministry is preparing to assign diplomats who are skilled and knowledgeable professionals.

Some of them would be well known persons and academicians, he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is working on repatriating over 2, 000 citizens who are living in Tanzania, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Libya in a rather difficult condition, Meles Alem said.

Over two hundred persons were repatriated from Yemen over the last two days, he added.
