The New Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Liu Hongyang has commended Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) for positive coverage on issues of national importance.

The Chinese envoy made the remarks on Friday when he paid a courtesy call to Malawi Broadcasting Corporation Television (MBC) in Blantyre.

Ambassador Hongyang said for years, MBC has been disseminating positive news concerning the Chinese Embassy activities in the country and that the development has enabled the two offices (MBC and the Chinese Embassy) to strengthen their bilateral ties for the betterment of the country.

"I am very impressed with what MBC is doing and I am confident that through the leadership of the Director General [Aubrey] Sumbuleta, MBC would continue disseminating issues for the betterment of Chinese Embassy and Malawi at large," he said.

The new envoy, therefore, disclosed plans to provide necessary support to the public broadcaster to enable it continue undertaking its tasks efficiently as well as effectively.

"During my tour to MBC premises, I learnt some challenges in terms of equipment, I pledge to do whatever I can within my ability to provide assistance in the future," he said.

On his part, MBC Director General Aubrey Sumbuleta described the visit by the Chinese Ambassador to MBC as an encouragement for the role being played by the broadcasting house.

"They are pleased with what MBC is doing in covering positive stories about the Chinese Embassy activities in Malawi. We are encouraged and motivated and we will continue to do so," he said.

Earlier, the ambassador toured MBC premises including studios and newsroom to appreciate some of the activities being done in the respective sections.
