Kenya: Police in Tana River Arrest Suspect in Italian's Abduction

Police in Tana River have arrested one of the three suspects linked to the abduction of Italian volunteer Silvia Romano in Kilifi last month.

Coast Regional AP Commander James Akoru confirmed that the suspect was arrested at Bangale in Tana River County.

Ibrahim Adan Omar was arrested on Sunday evening at around 7pm.

"An AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 100 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspect," said a police source who declined to disclose where the suspect is being detained.

Other suspects named by police in the abduction of Ms Romano are Yusuf Kuno Adan and Said Adan Abdi who are still on the run.

Police have offered a reward of Sh1 million to anyone who will provide information that will lead to the arrest of each the suspects.

A multi-agency security team comprising of police and army units has reportedly sealed off Boni Forest and areas bordering Lamu, Garisa and Tana River counties in search of the bandits who also injured five locals at Chakama in Kilifi during the ambush on November 20, 2018.
