The Fifa 2018 world cup held in Russia was the top trending Google search in Kenya this year.

The tournament was full of surprises to football enthusiasts as teams considered to have prominent players were sent home in the early stages.

Slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was the second top search after she was found dead in a forest in Migori County. It later emerged that she was romantically involved with Migori governor Okoth Obado.

Self-declared National Resistance Movement "general" Miguna Miguna came in third following his dramatic deportation to Canada earlier this year.

Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe, who is facing charges together with her fiancé Joshua Irungu alias Jowie over the murder of Monica Kimani, is ranked number eight.

Samantha the sex doll amd Tanzanian gospel singer Rose Muhando are also in the top ten trending searches.

In the 'How To' category, most Kenyans were curious to know how to file nil tax returns, how to get pregnant and how to lose weight faster.

The top trending searches on the 'What is' category included what is sex, what is ovulation and what is riparian land.
