Nigeria: Suspected Cultist in Police Net Over Firearm Possession

Yenagoa — The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 22-year-old suspected cultist in the state.

The suspect, James Oweifa, is said to be from Agbere community of Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Asinim Butswat, in a statement, said the suspect was arrested by the surveillance team of the monitoring unit of the command yesterday.

He said: "On 13 December, 2018, at about 1330 hours, the surveillance team of the Command Monitoring unit, acted on a tip-off and arrested one James Oweifa, 22, a native of Agbere Community, Sagbama LGA.

"The suspect, a notorious Icelanders cultist, AKA Grade, was arrested in possession of a locally made revolver pistol with five rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

"Investigation is ongoing to arrest his cohorts," the police said.
