28 December 2018

Namayingo — A police officer is in detention in Namayingo District for allegedly shooting dead a colleague at Lolwe Island, on Lake Victoria.

The suspect who is attached to Field Force Unit, reportedly shot dead Simon Bukenya who was attached to the Marine Unit on Thursday night. The two had been deployed the previous day to guard police boats at Lolwe Island Police Station.

Busoga East Police Spokesman, Mr James Mubi, said they have not established what prompted the suspect to shoot his colleague.

"We don't know what happened between the two, but just found Simon [Bukenya] gunned down in the station compound," Mr Mubi said.

He said the body has been taken to Bugiri Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem as investigations continue.
